Spring is now in full swing in Medford, WI! Maple sugaring season has been well underway since late February. This year on April 30th, the town is holding their 9th annual Maple Festival at their own Taylor County Fairgrounds, to celebrate the renowned sugar maple tree at the conclusion of its harvesting season. Deemed Wisconsin’s state tree in 1949, the sugar maple attracts thousands each year with its flashy display of red and golden leaves that never cease to amaze those who witness them. But most visitors end up staying to satisfy their sweet tooth, indulging in the seemingly endless ways to use maple syrup and sugar. There will also be a maple syrup judging contest to showcase the dedication that Wisconsin’s maple sugar-makers give to producing the best maple syrup in the county.

Chainsaw sculpture demonstrations add a unique dimension to the day’s festivities as well, exhibiting striking art techniques that date back decades. Guests even have the potential opportunity to take a sugar maple home if entered in the maple tree giveaway! The Red Wagon Parade hits off at 10:30am, where The Taylor County Lions Club encourages children under the age of 12, along with their parents and teachers, to design their own float based on the theme, “Celebrate Wisconsin’s Maple Tree.” Ongoing throughout the event, the Maple Scavenger Hunt also provides all-day entertainment so parents can both enjoy themselves and participate with their children in an exciting, fun-loving game.
