Overview

Ford has pulled out all the stops when designing this latest version of the F-150, giving it a wide variety of powertrains and impressive technology, even going so far as to introduce a hybrid variant. The new model retains its incredible handling, but the many new engine options now send it speeding ahead of the competition. Choose the 5.0-liter V8 for maximum acceleration and horsepower, or the innovative hybrid V6 for a huge towing capacity.

Configurations

Almost every part of the F-150 can be customized, from the engine to the passenger cabin, allowing you to build your truck to your own individual needs. When it comes to seating space, the F-150 can be had with Regular, SuperCab, or SuperCrew passenger cabins, allowing it to accommodate anywhere from three to six people. There’s plenty of options when it comes to cargo as well, with bed lengths ranging from 5.5ft to 8.0ft depending on the cabin configuration selected. In general, smaller cabins can fit larger beds and vice-versa.

Engine Options

There’s a total of seven separate engine options for the new F-150, including the new hybrid V6. All engines are paired with the new standard transmission: a 10-speed automatic that replaces the 6-speed found on previous models. The Raptor variant exclusively uses the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which is designed to be high output. The engine variants available are:

• A 3.3-liter V6 with 290hp and 265lb-ft of torque

• A 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 with 325hp and 400lb-ft of torque

• A 5.0-liter V8 with 400hp and 410lb-ft of torque

• A 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 with 400hp and 500lb-ft of torque

• A 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 with 250hp and 440lb-ft of torque

• A 3.5-liter hybrid twin-turbo V6 with 430hp and 570lb-ft of torque

• A 3.5-liter high-output, twin-turbo V6 exclusively for the Raptor variant with 450hp and 510lb-ft of torque

Towing and Payload Capacity

The maximum towing and payload capacities vary greatly, depending on the engine model, cab, and bed configuration chosen. However, the maximum towing capacity is provided by the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, which can net you up to 14,000lbs. You’ll need an RWD SuperCab configuration to get this figure, as well as the optional Max Trailer Tow add-on. For maximum payload capacity, choose a model with the 5.0-liter V8 and a regular cab, along with the eight-foot bed configuration. This will get you a maximum figure of 3,325lbs.
